Senjumaru was made the figurehead of the rebel forces led by Chikahira Izumi (1211). He was captured by forces of the Kamakura Shogunate and was forced by Masako, the widow of Yoritomo Minamoto, to become a Buddhist priest. He became a disciple of Priest Eisai, was given the name of Eijitsu and went to Kyoto.
In 1214 he was again made the figurehead of the remnant forces of Yoshimori Wada and called himself daishogun, or great Shogun, for a time. While stopping at an inn in Ichijo, Kyoto, he was assaulted by retainers of Hiromoto Oe and killed himself.
