Sergey Ryabchenko attended the Grekov Odessa Art school, and graduated from it in 1953. Among his teachers were Leonid Muchnyk and Moses Mutselmaher.
Ryabchenko was a participant of the Great Patriotic War. When he was demobilized he worked in the field of easel graphics. Ryabchenko presented his first paintings at a republican exhibition in 1954. From 1956 Sergey Ryabchenko took part in a number of international exhibitions. In 1957 he was a participant of the All-Union show.
His major artworks include a series of etchings and linocuts "Landscapes of Odessa" (1954-1961); a series of lithographs "Military Fleet" (1959-1960); a series of linocuts "The Legendary Heroes of the Civil War" (1963-1965) and others.
