Sergey Alekseevich Feoktistov was born on January 19, 1919, in Borisoglebsk, Voronezh, Russian Federation.
Sergey Alekseevich spent his childhood and youth in Moscow. He graduated from 7 classes. In 1940 he graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation Pilot School. Sergey Alekseevich worked as a turner apprentice at the factory, then at the construction of the subway.
From the first day of the war, Sergey Alekseevich was part of a fighter aviation regiment. Then the regiment was reorganized into an assault and entered the battle on the distant approaches to Moscow. In the spring of 1942, the air regiment was transferred to the North-Western Front in the area of Demyansk. Along with the ground attack, Sergey Alekseevich shot down 4 bombers in air battles.
Sergey Alekseevich participated in the Battle of Stalingrad, then in the battles on the territory of Belarus. February 26, 1943, he was shot down by anti-aircraft artillery fire and made an emergency landing on the territory occupied by the enemy. A month he fought in the 1st Belorussian partisan brigade, from April 1943 again in the Air Force.
By September 1944, Captain Sergey Alekseevich Feoktistov made 80 sorties to attack enemy troops and equipment. Destroyed 7 enemy aircraft in air battles. In total, during the war, he made 146 sorties and shot down 11 enemy aircraft.
In 1948 he graduated from the Higher Officer Flight Tactical Courses, in 1957 Sergey Alekseevich successfully graduated from the Air Force Academy.
