Sergey Vladimirovich graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics of Voronezh Technological Institute (now Voronezh State Technical University) (1972).
Until 1995, Sergey Vladimirovich worked in the city of Voronezh in various engineering positions (Giprokauchuk Research Institute, Special Design Bureau at the Radio Parts Factory, and others). Since 2002, he has been mainly involved in the photographic business. Sergey Vladimirovich specializes mainly in the field of church subjects. He is working on a series of photographs for the multi-volume edition of Russian Monasteries (the Urals, the Urals, Siberia, the Voronezh Region and the Lipetsk Region). In 2008, for the book "Big Don" Sergey Vladimirovich took photographs in five regions of the Don region (from Tula to Taganrog).
Smirnov’s photographs are published in many booklets, photo albums and other illustrated publications, including books: "Voronezh Aleksievo-Akatov Convent" (Voronezh, 2003), "Russian Monasteries. The southern part of the Central region of Russia" (Novomoskovsk; Moscow, 2005). Winner of many Voronezh art exhibitions.
