Sheila Watson attended primary and secondary school at the convent of the Sisters of St. Anne. She attended two years of university at the Convent of the Sacred Heart. Mrs. Watson completed her studies at University of British Columbia with honors degree in English in 1931, in 1932 he received a teaching certificate and in 1933 Master of Arts. In 1965 Sheila Watson graduated from University of Toronto, earning Doctor of Philosophy.
Mrs. Watson worked at St. Louis College, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, also at schools in Dog Creek, Langley Prairie, Duncan, and Mission City, serving as a teacher starting from 1934 until the end of World War II.
Between 1946 and 1948 Sheila Watson joined the staff of Moulton College, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, holding the position of a teacher. She occupied the post of a lecturer at University of British Columbia, from 1948 till 1950. During 1950-1951 she worked at High School in Powell River, British Columbia. She resumed her office as a professor at University of Alberta from 1961 till 1975. In 1971-1978 Mrs. Watson was a coeditor for White Pelican.

1979When asked in a 1992 interview if she still embraced the Catholic faith Mrs. Watson replied, "Like Pascal, groaning".
Sheila Watson married Wilfred Watson, a poet and playwright, on December 25, 1940.
