From 1897 typesetter in Batumi. 1901 participated in printers’ strike. 1902 helped equip and establish illegal Social-Democratic printing house in Batumi.
Late 1902—fall 1905 worked for illegal printing houses in Baku. Late 1905 left for Moscow. 11 December 1905, during the armed revolt, arrested and imprisoned in Butyrka Jail.
After his release worked for Central Committee, Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party’s underground printing house in Moscow. Early 1907 arrived in Saint St. Petersburg and later worked at illegal printing house in Vyborg, Finland. 1908-1915 at various Saint St. Petersburg printing houses.
Revol work in Printers’ Union. Late 1915 went to Tiflis, where he headed printers’ union and Party wort. 1917 member, Tiflis and Caucasian Kray Party Committee.
February 1917 founded illegal printing house in Tiflis. Early 1918 moved to Vladikavkaz with other members of Caucasian Kray Party Committee. Engaged in political and lit work.
Helped establish Terek Republic. After establishment of Soviet rule in Geo on 25 February 1921 held various exec posts: chairman, Tiflis Revol Committee. People's Commissar of Social Security.
1921-1924 People's Commissar of Agriculture 1924-1927 secretary, Geo Central Executive Committee. 1927-1929 People's Commissar of Labor.
1928-1933 secretary. Geo Executive Committee. 1933-1936 secretary, Transcaucasian SFSR Central Executive Committee. Member, Central Committee, Communist Party Geo and member, Transcaucasian Kray All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Committee.
Member. Geo Central Executive Committee. Member, Transcaucasian SFSR Central Executive Committee and member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Central Executive Committee. Helped found and direct Geo Association of proletarian Writers.
1917 began lit work; wrote mainly humorous and satirical works.
