Suzanne Weyn was born on July 6, 1955, in Flushing, Queens, United States. She is a daughter of Theodore Weyn, a pharmacist, and Jacqueline Weyn, a watercolorist. She grew up in Long Island, New York. Suzanne has three siblings.

Education

In 1975 Suzanne Weyn received an Associate degree of Arts (A. A.) from Nassau Community College. In 1977 she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York.

Career

From 1977 to 1979 Suzanne Weyn was an editor at Ideals Publishing in New York City. From 1979 to 1981 she worked as an editor at Starlog Press in New York City. Weyn served as a staff writer and an associate editor at Scholastic, Inc. in New York City from 1981 to 1984. From 1984 to 1987 Suzanne was a senior editor at Parachute Press in New York City. From 1987 to 1989 she was a part-time teacher of children’s and business writing at New York University in New York City. She continues to write and currently also teaches writing at City College of New York and Medgar Evers College.

Achievements

• Suzanne Weyn is best known as the author of many books for young adults including Distant Waves, Reincarnation, Empty, and Invisible World. Her novel The Bar Code Tattoo, a Scholastic Point Thriller, was named by the American Library Association (ALA) as a Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers and nominated by the Nevada Library Association as a Best Young Adult Book. It continues to appear on high school and middle school reading lists. The German translation of The Bar Code Tattoo was short-listed for the prestigious jugenliteraturpreis (Youth literature Prize).
