Syed Jan Abas studied at University of London. He recieved B.S. degree in 1963 and Ph.D. in 1967.
Syed Jan Abas was a lecturer in maths and information technology at University of Wales, Bangor, Wales, since 1966. He was also a research fellow at Manchester University Computer Graphics Unit and a member of the editorial board at Journal of Speculations in Science and Technology.
His first book "Computers in Health and Fitness" was written in 1988 and explained to non-scientists how computers work and their relevance in a matter that concerns everyone — health and fitness. The next two books "Pascal: An Interactive Text (textbook)", 1990 and "Rapid Turbo Pascal Graphics Tutor (textbook)", 1992 are university texts and came as a result of teaching innovation in computer programming and computer graphics. His latest book on Islamic patterns ("Symmetries of Islamic Geometrical Patterns", 1995) resulted from his love of Islamic geometrical art, which allowed him to experience science and art in unity.
