Takamochi Taira lived around 890. He was grandson of Prince Kuzuhara, son of Emperor Kammu.
He was appointed Lord of Kazusa (Chiba Prefecture) and granted the family name of Taira (889).
His son Yoshimochi, was the father of Masakado and commander of the Imperial forces in northern Japan. His descendants were called Kammu-Heishi and lived in eastern Japan.
