Tani Shin-ichi has been in turn assistant professor at his alma mater, an irregular staff member of Historical Research Board of Tokyo University, assistant professor at Keijo (Seoul) University and dean of his alma mater's Faculty of Arts, professor at Kobe University and member of the Historical Research Board.
Was on the management committees of Bridgestone Art Gallery, Tokyo Municipal Art Gallery and Kobe City Art Gallery.
