In 1933, Tatsuro Yamamoto graduated from Tokyo University.
Tatsuro Yamamoto served as member of the Eastern Cultural Study Institute; appointed assistant professor of Tokyo University (1942) and professor (1949). Received a doctorate (1951). Specially studied the history of the South Sea Region before the Ming Dynasty, especially Annamese history.
Tatsuro Yamamoto received the Mainichi Science Fund for the study of Annamese history and also a prize of the Imperial Academy (1949). Studied at Harvard University (1950) and then visited Europe and photographed Stein's old Chinese literature kept in the British Museum.
