Tetsuto Uno was born on November 15, 1875 in Kumamoto, Japan.
In 1900 Tetsuto Uno graduated from Chinese Literature Department of Tokyo University.
Tetsuto Uno served as professor at Tokyo Higher Normal School and then, in 1905 returned to his alma mater as assistant professor.
The following year was sent to China and Germany for further studies. Upon return rejoined his alma mater as professor and the same year, in 1919, was conferred a doctorate, Doctor of Letters. In 1929 assumed additional post as professor at Tokyo Bunrika (Science and Literature) University.
In 1934 he retired under age limit. Later, in 1945 was appointed professor at Toyo University and then director of Toho Bunka Gakuin (Eastern Cultural Academy). An authority on Chinese literature and philosophy.
