Chen Theodore Hsi-en received middle school education at Fuzhou (Foochow) College, Fuzhou. He majored in education while studying in Fujian (Fukien) Christian University, from which he graduated in 1922.
Mr. Chen was a leader in many forms of student activities in college, for example: editor-in-chief of the college paper "The Fukien Star”. He graduated from Teachers' College, Columbia University where he received his Master of Arts degree.
Mr. Chen was a teacher of English in Anglo-Chinese College, Fuzhou, from 1922 to 1924. He was abroad in U.S.A. from 1924 to 1929. Returned to China in 1929 to teach education in Fukien Christian University, of which he was Dean. He also was a writer of articles on Education.
