An assistant professor at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale since 1976, Thomas Shuler, Jr. taught photography at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., in 1975-1976. He has also done freelance commercial work since 1973. In 1974 the photographer received a supply sponsorship from the Polaroid Foundation. He worked with SX-70 and infrared film.
