Discusses the relatively complex mechanisms of blood coagulation to help the medical doctor interpret laboratory tests performed on his patients. Each test is defined by what it measures and when it can be expected to yield information meaningful in establishing the nature of the bleeding problem. A comprehensive view of blood bank services is included to insure familiarity with the properties of each available blood component and the indications for its use. Separate chapters are devoted to hemophilias, other congenital coagulation disorders, thrombocytopenia, disorders of platelet function and the disturbances of coagulation encountered in pregnancy, in the newborn and in liver disease. It is illustrated with black/white photos and drawings.
