Tokiyuki was born in Japan. He was the second son of Takatoki.
When the Hojo regime collapsed (1333), he was still a child and was sheltered in Shinano Province (Nagano Prefecture). Remnant Hojo forces attempted to restore the Hojo regime with Tokiyuki as their head (1335), in complicity with Kimmune Saionji in Kyoto. Tokiyuki’s forces advanced to Musashi Province (Saitama Pre¬fecture) and occupied Kamakura, after having driven from there Tadayoshi Ashikaga. Soon afterward, they were routed by Takauji Ashikaga, elder brother of Tadayoshi. This is called the Nakasendai Affair. After the South Dynasty Imperial Government was formed in Yoshino, Tokiyuki pledged loyalty to it, fought Takauji’s forces but was defeated. In 1352,he and Yoshioki Nitta defeated Motouji Ashikaga at Kamakura but he was captured by Takauji’s forces and killed in 1353.
