Tsunetoki 北條經時

Background

Tsunetoki was born in 1214. He was the grandson of Yasutoki.

Career

Succeded Yasutoki as Shikken or Prime Min¬ister of the Kamakura Shogunate in 1241. At the time, there was a discord between ex-Shogun Yoritsune Fujiwara and the Shogunate government. Finding the task of settling the discord too difficult, he handed over the Prime Ministership to his brother, Tokiyori, and became a priest, assuming the Buddhist name of Anraku.
