Ujiaki Odate was born in 1305. He was the son of Muneuji Odate.

Ujiaki Odate followed Akiie Kitabatake and fought at the Enryakuji and Onjoji temples (1336). When Takauji Ashikaga fled westward to Kyushu, he defeated Norimura Akamatsu and was appointed lord of Iyo Province (Ehime Prefecture). Together with the Dois and Tokunos, he controlled Shikoku.

Ujiaki Odate had to keep to Seta Castle for more than 10 years. He finally killed himself in the castle, after fighting against North Dynasty forces with only 17 of his followers.
