He graduated from the conductor-choir and piano (1966), symphony conducting (1972) departments of the Leningrad Conservatory and also performing postgraduate studies (ibid, 1975). He was a teacher of choral conducting of the Leningrad State Institute of Culture named after N.K. Krupskaya (1967-1972). He has been a chief conductor of the Voronezh Philharmonic Orchestra (since 1972); The orchestra was awarded the honorary title of "Academic" (1995), won the first prize of the radio festival "Orpheus" (2002), participated in major music festivals dedicated to the work of P.I. Tchaikovsky, S.I. Taneyeva, S.V. Rachmaninov, performed with concerts in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of the country.
Verbitsky has toured extensively, including foreign countries (Spain, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South America, USA).
