Wataru Masuda studied under Haruo Sato in his school days. After his graduation, went to Shanghai and studied Chinese literature under Luhsun.
Upon return to Japan, Wataru Masuda translated Rojin Senshu (Selection of Luhsun's Works ) and later he wrote Rojin-noInsho (Impression of Luhsun). He became instructor of Hosei University, Tokyo University, Keio University, professor of Shimane University and professor at Osaka Municipal University since 1953.
