Returned to California and engaged in business in Humboldt Company, 1867-1872. Returned to Oregon and established business there and in Idaho. Became member and, in 1882, president Oregon Senate.
Moved to Idaho, engaging in business as merchant and banker. Was member Idaho Constitutional Convention, 1890. One of its 1st United States senators, drawing the short term, 1890-1891.
