Gazetted Sub-Lieut, unattached, 1876. Passed through Sandhurst, and joined the 74th Highlanders, 1877. Served in the Straits Settlements and Hong-Kong.
Egypt, 1882; present at Tel-el-Kebir (Victoria Cross, medal and clasp, and Khedive’s star). India, 1884-1889; five years Adjutant of 3rd Battalion Highland Light Infantry. Retired November 1896.
Appointed to His (or Her) Majesty Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms, 1899. Decorated for gallantry at Tel-el-Kebir. Victoria Cross, Justice of the Peace, D.L.; on retired pay.
