Yakov Abramovich graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bern in Switzerland.
In the 1920s Yakov Abramovich was a lecturer at universities in Rostov-on-Don and Baku, also was on party work in Dagestan. In 1929-1931 he was the head of the department of Marxism-Leninism, vice-rector of Voronezh State University. Since 1931 was a professor of the Voronezh State Pedagogical Institute (now Voronezh State Pedagogical University ), at the same time director of the Institute of Marxism-Leninism of the Voronezh Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks).
In 1918 Yakov Ratgauzer joined the All-Union (Bolsheviks).
