Yasunaga Toda was born in 1564 in Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture), Japan. His family served the Tokugawa family for many generations.
Yasunaga Toda distinguished himself during the battles of Nagashino and Odawara, and when Ieyasu moved to Kanta District he was made Lord of Fukaya in Musashi (Saitama Prefecture).
Distinguished himself again during the Battle of Sekigahara by capturing Ogaki Castle (1600). Later was made Lord of Kasama in Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture) with a fief of 30,000 koku of rice (1608). For services rendered during the Battle of Osaka was promoted Lord of Takasaki Castle, then Lord of Matsumoto Castle with a fief of 70,000 lcokii of rice.
