He served Shogun Yoritomo, Yoriie and Sane- tomo Minamoto to become as powerful as the hojo family. Despite strong pressure brought on him by Yoshimorf Wada (1213) and his younger brother Taneyoshi (1221) to break with the Hojo family he remained faithful to them. Later when Mitsumune Iga plotted against the Hojos he disclosed the intrigue to Yasutoki Hojo (1224). In return for his loyalty he was much favored by the Hojos.
