Yoshitaka Komiya studied at Tokyo University, which he finished in 1925. Then in 1930 he was sent by Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Shanghai Natural Science Research Institute as a research scholar. He was conferred a doctorate, Sc.D. in 1932. Later in 1936 Yoshitaka was sent to Tropical Disease Research Institute, Hamburg, Germany, for further studies and upon return he rejoined his institute in Shanghai in 1937.
Returning to Japan in 1945 Yoshitaka Komiya was appointed instructor at Maebashi Medical College, then professor and eventually chief of the parasite control section of National Hygiene Research Institute in 1949.
