Since 1980, Yuriy Vladimirovich Draguntsov served in Akhalkalaki (Georgian SSR). In 1982 he was transferred to the military counterintelligence of the KGB (Committee for State Security) of the USSR. From 1985 till 1987, Yuriy Vladimirovich served in the limited contingent of Soviet troops in the Republic of Afghanistan. Since 1987 he served in Transcaucasia,Kutaisi, Stepanakert, Baku as well. Since November, 1992 Draguntsov led various units that provided counterintelligence activities in units and formations of the Military Space Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In 1999, he was transferred to the Internal Security Division of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation. Since April, 2004 Yuriy Draguntsov held the position of a deputy head of the department "M" of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. On the seventeenth of March, 2006 he was appointed head of the Department of Internal Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
He is married, and has two children.
