Akinobu Kitabatake

Background

Akinobu Kitabatake was born in Japan. He was the second son of Chikafusa Kitabatake.

Career

Calling himself Kasuga-no-Shosho, Akinobu fought alongside with his brother, Akue, against Ashikaga's army, and when his brother died he was appointed Lord of Mutsu and military commander of the district (1338). When Emperor Gomurakami attacked Otokoyama (near Kyoto) in an attempt to retake Kyoto, Akinobu assisted the Nancho (south dynasty) in their war against Ashikaga, but was defeated. Later he joined the army of Yori- hisa Shoni at Kyushu to attack the Hokucho (north dynasty) but was defeated again and killed in battle.
