1889 graduate Saint St. Petersburg Military Medical Academy.
After graduate worked as zemstvo physician. From 1894 physician, Obukh City Hospital, then Peter and Paul Hospital, Saint St. Petersburg. 1898 defended doctor’s thesis on reaction of pancreas to starvation.
1899—1901 assistant professor, Women's Medical Institute Clinic. 1901 exiled from Saint St. Petersburg for involvement in demonstration on Kazan’ Square. 1901-1902 worked under I.I. Mechnikov in Paris.
1903 returned to Russia. 1904-1918 professor of therapy, Yur’yev University. 1910 devised special diet for gastric and duodenal ulcers.
1919-1924 professor of therapy, Crimean University. From 1924 professor of therapy, 1st Moscow University. Then professor of therapy, Moscow Oblast Clinical Institute.
Together with A.M.Levin, designed an oscillograph for measuring mean arterial pressure. 1931 devised method of treating diphtheria with antitoxic serum. Also studied psychotherapy of internal diseases.
Contributed to non-medical journals “Novoye slovo”, “Nachalo” and “Scvernyy kur’yer”. Member, Free Economy Social.
