Background

Alexander Ivanovich Martinovich was born in 1857 in Russian Federation.

Education

In 1883 Alexander Martinovich graduated from the Medicine Faculty of Kharkov University. Later in 1896 he received a Doctor of Medicine.

Career

From 1905 till 1914 Alexander Martinovich worked as a senior doctor at the Mikhailovsky Cadet Corps in Voronezh. In March 1914 he was redirected to Lomza, Poland where he holds office as a Councillor of State. From 1905 Alexander Martinovich was a member of the Scientific Archive Commission in Voronezh and in 1914 he became an Honorary member of this organization. From 1905 till 1914 he analyzed and systematized many works, manuscripts, and findings in the Commission Library.

In 1906 Alexander Martinovich lead the excavations at the Lysogorsk burial ground near Voronezh. In 1910-1913 he took part in the excavation of the "Chastise Kurgany" in Voronezh, but his research articles for the Scientific Archive Commission of Voronezh were left unpublished.

In 1912 at the exhibition arranged to coincide with the centennial of the Patriotic War of 1812 Alexander Martinovich presented rare postcards with images of Napoleon and the generals of the French army from his own collection. He also lead excavations near the village of Nizhnyaya Veduga, Zemlyansky district. The results were reported at a meeting of the Voronezh Scientific Archive Commission in February 1913.

Alexander Martinovich is known as the author of many research articles: "Roman coins" (Collection of the Voronezh Provincial Museum, 1908); "Excavation of burial mounds near the Khazar settlement" in 1906 (The Scientific Archive Commission of Voronezh , 1908, 4th edition ); "Archaeological excavations" (Voronezh Provincial Museum, 1914, 2nd edition).
