Maximilian Maksakov was born on 1869 in Chernivtsi, Chernivets'ka Oblast', Ukraine.
His debut on the Russian scene took place in 1886 (Saint Petersburg). Maksimilian Karlovich performed in theaters in Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Odessa, Kharkov, and other cities. In 1889-1897, the soloist of Tiflis and Baku operas. In the 1900-1910s he toured the provinces. He repeatedly visited Voronezh (1908, 1909 and others). He taught in Leningrad (1925-1927) and at the State Institute of Theatrical Art named after A. V. Lunacharsky in Moscow (until 1930 ).
For 50 years of stage activity he performed more than 120 parties in such performances as "Life for the Tsar" by Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka, "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi, "Carmen" by Georges Bizet, "The Demon" by Anton Grigorievich Rubinstein, "the Sorceress" Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (Maksakov sang the part of the old prince) and others.
As a director, he staged performances: "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi, "Boris Godunov", "The Sorceress", "The Maid of Orleans" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and others.
