In 1955 Legostaev Alexey Stefanovich graduated from Yelets Art School and in 1964 from Moscow State Pedagogical Institute, the Faculty of Art and Graphics.
Legostaev Alexey Stefanovich was a teacher of drawing in high school since 1955 till 1986. Since 1986 he was a graphic designer of the District House of Culture (Nizhnedevitsk Village, Voronezh Region).
Legostaev Alexey Stefanovich was a participant of many regional and national exhibitions. His personal exhibitions took place in the village of Khokholsky of Voronezh region (1996), in Voronezh (1998, 2006), in the city of Stary Oskol of Belgorod region (2000), in the village of Repyevka of Voronezh region (2003).
In 1996 Legostaev Alexey Stefanovich became an honored worker of the culture of the Russian Federation.
In 1987 he created a gallery of portraits of Heroes of the Soviet Union, participants of the Great Patriotic War, natives of Nizhnedevitsk District.
Legostaev's works are stored in the InterGallery (England), private collections (USA, Denmark, Germany, Japan). The costumes for Petropavlovsk folk choir were created on the base of Legostaev's sketches. The songs of Voronezh composers A. Tokmakov, N. Goncharov and V. Dvortsevoy were written on the base of Legostaev's verses.
