In 1964, Elizabeth graduated from Louisiana State University, where she attained Bachelor of Science degree. Two years later, in 1966, Elizabeth got Master of Science degree at the same university.
In 1966, Elizabeth started to work as a research assistant at Food Research Institute, University of Wisconsin in Madison, a post she held till 1970. During the period from 1971 to 1977, Crary held the same position at food science department at Food Research Institute.
Since 1974, she founded and headed the Parenthood Education Programs in Madison, a position Elizabeth held till 1977, when she was appointed a parent education instructor at North Seattle Community College.
In the mid-1970s, Elizabeth and her husband Fred Dailey Crary founded Parenting Press, a publishing firm located in Seattle, Washington, that focuses on subjects of child development, child guidance and parenting. In 1978, Elizabeth worked as a publisher of the organization.
In 1980, Crary started to work as a co-director of Parent Education Associates.
