Homi Shirasawa was born in 1868 in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
After serving as a forestry expert at the Agriculture and Commerce Ministry and other government agencies, he was appointed director of the Forestry Experiment Station (1913); resigned (1932).
In his late years, he was president of Japan Forestry Association and chief director of Forestry Development Association. In 1932 he studied in Germany and traveled abroad several times.
