Ishii Genzo was born in 1668. As his father was killed by Goemon Akabori while he was still young he and his younger brother were brought up by an aunt in Hiroshima and assisted by a faithful servant named Magosuke.
When Ishii Genzo came of age he sought the permission of the magistrate in Edo to take revenge upon his father's killer (1698). The permission was duly granted and he slew Akabori outside the Kameyama Castle (1702). This account of Ishii's revenge has been dramatized in the play titled "Kameyama's Revenge" and has also been the theme fo r many Kabuki and joruri plays.
