After graduating from Kyoto University came under the influence of Kiyoshi Miki and made a detailed study of modern Japanese literature. He was a professor at Meiji University, he edited a literary journal titled "Tenbo" (view). Is considered an authority on the works of Pgai Mori. Among his works are "Spirit of Ogai" and "History of Modern Japanese Literature".
