Kikan Ikeda was born in Tottori Prefecture.
Kikan Ikeda graduated from Tokyo University (1926).
He made a special study of the literature of the Heian Period and came to be considered as an able philologist and an authority on the Genjz Monogatari written by lady Murasaki-Shikibu.
Later turned educator and saw service as assistant professor of Tokyo University (since 1934), instructor at Waseda University and then professor at Showa Women's College. Was conferred a doctorate for his research of the classics (1948). Among his works are "A Diary of Court Ladies" and "Research on Ise Monogatari".
