Mikhail Andreevich graduated from school (1930), and then studied at the Hydrometeorological Institute and the Correspondence Institute of Foreign Languages. In 1950 graduated from the Leningrad Theological Academy (now Saint Petersburg Theological Academy).
Since 1932, Mikhail Andreevich was a teacher in various educational institutions. From 1950 to 1953 he worked as a teacher at the Leningrad Theological Seminary (now Saint Petersburg Theological Academy). He was a Bishop of Luga, Vicar of the Leningrad Diocese for the Management of Patriarchal Parishes and Monasteries in Finland (1953-1954); Starorussky Vicar of the Novgorod Diocese (1954-1955); Vyazemsky interim governor of the Smolensk diocese (1955-1957).
Mikhail Andreevich was a deputy chairman of the external relations department of the Russian Orthodox Church; Izhevsk (1959-1961); Tambov and Michurin (1961-1962, since 1974), Stavropol and Baku (1962-1968, from 1965 - Archbishop). Archbishop of Voronezh and Lipetsk (1968-1972), Vologda and Veliko-Ustyug (1972-1974).
