Career
Nawa defeated the forces of Kiyotaka Sasaki,a Shogmate warrior. When Takauji Ashikaga, in his westward Irom the Kanto District, attacked Kyoto (1336), Nagatoshi defended the capital. Takauji fled to Kyushu, from there he again came back with a powerful army against Kyoto. Takauji's forces defeated Masashige Kusunoki at Minatogawa near Kobe and invaded the capital. Nagatoshi and Yoshisada Nitta attacked Takauji's forces in Kyoto but were defeated. Although other generals of the Imperial forces retreated, Nagatoshi refused to do so and was killed while fighting.
