Osamu Takata

Background

Takata Osamu was born in Nara Prefecture, 1907.

Education

Graduated from Tokyo University with a degree in Indian philosophy (1931).

Career

Remained as an assistant and also worked in an honorary capacity at Imperial Academy till he was sent to Java to take up a wartime post as administrator.

After the end of World War II, was appointed by Occupaion authorities to investigate and catalogue art treasures. Since then has been with National Cultural Property Research Institute, Tokyo (1952). He was also instructor at Tokyo and Tohoku universities.
