Ota Mochisuke

Background

Ota Mochisuke was born in 1432 in Kyoto, Japan. His father, Sukekiyo, was distinguished both as a warrior and scholar.

Career

Mochisuke served Sadamasa Uesugi at Ogigayatsu and built Edo Castle in 1457. Although the Uesugi family became prosperous thanks to Mochisuke, Sadamasa believed a slander of him by Akisada Yamanouchi and killed Mochisuke.

Achievements

• Mochisuke brought scholars and priests from Kyoto to make Edo a cultural center and collected books of poetry and military science.
