Headmaster of High Schools, 1864-1868. Professor of Sanskrit, Elphinstone College, Bombay, 1869-1881. Author, editor, and translator of numerous Sanskrit works, and of philological and antiquarian articles and essays in the transactions of learned societies.
Fellow, and for two years Vice-Chancellor, Bombay University. Fellow of Calcutta University. Nominated to membership of Viceroy’s Legislative Council in connection with Lord Curzon’s Educational Reforms, 1903.
Member of Bombay Legislative Council. A leader of Hindu social and religious reform movements. Dakshina Fellow, 1859-1864.
