Ryosei Koganei

Background

Ryosei Koganei was born in 1858. He was the son of a clansman of Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture.

Education

Ryosei studied in Tokyo University in the years 1876-1880.

Career

Returning home earned for himself a great reputation as an anthropologist with his research on the Ainus and his contributions to archaeological and anthropological circles. Ryosei Koganei was professor at his alma mater to eventually become Dean of the University’s Faculty of Medicine.
