Sanehira Kiyohara succeeded to the six provinces of Mutsu District (northeast Japan) upon the death of his father, Takesada. This roused the jealousy of his half-brother, Lehira and another relative, Hidetake Kimiko, who began making plans to attack him. At this time Yoshne Minamoto had become Lord of Mutsu, and he helped Sanehira to defeat his enemies. Hidetake was killed and Iehira surrendered. Shortly after Sanehira died of illness.
