Shinji Yamane graduated from Geology Department of Tokyo University (1910).
Shinji Yamane served as engineer of Agriculture & Commerce Ministry, engineer of Commerce & Industry Ministry, lecturer of Science Department of Kyoto University, professor of Kyushu University, director of Chishitsu Kenkyujo (Geology Research Institute) of Commerce & Industry Ministry (from 1935) and then as director of Chika Shigen Chosasho (Underground Resources Research Institute) (1945-1947). President of Shimane University (since 1949).
Visited Canada and U.S.A. to attend international conference (1949). Elected member of Gakuiutsu Kenkyii Kaigi (Science Research Council). Books include Shina Chishi (The Geological History of China), Osaka-no Chishitsu (Geology of Osaka) and Nampa Kosan Shigen Soron (An Introduction to the Mineral Resources in the South Sea Region).
