Taketoki Kikuchi was first heard of as a priest under the name of Jakua. It is said when Emperor Godaigo returned from his exile at Oki Island, Taketoki managed to convey to him his oath of loyalty, which pleased the Emperor so much that he sent him his Royal Standard (1333). Abandoning the monastery now, he turned warrior and led the attack against Hidetoki Hojo, the Shogun's general, at Kyushu, but was killed in action.
Connections
It is said that while Taketoki lay dyinp: on the battlefield, he ordered his eldest son to return to Hio and raise another army for the Emperor's cause. Taketoki’s wife also died with her husband and both are now enshrined at the Kikuchi Shrine, Waifu (Kumamoto Prefecture).
