Teikichi Kida was born in 1871.
After graduating from Tokyo University, Teikichi Kida was appointed instructor at his alma mater and also at Kyoto University, of which he became professor.
His dispute with Tei Sekino over the reconstruction of Horyuji Temple, during those days, was a sensation. So, too was his daring attack against the interpretation of Nambokucho Period in the textbooks of that time. This issue was fiercely debated in the Diet. Teikichi Kida defended the Hokucho (Kyoto) Dynasty as being in legal succession to the Throne while the Education Ministry contended for the Nanch (Yoshino) Dynasty. In this debate he lost out and was temporarily dismissed from service.
