Turegeldy Sharmanovich Sharmanov was born on October 19, 1930 in Ulytau village, Ulytau district of the Karaganda region (Kazakhstan).

In 1955 Turegeldy Sharmanovich Sharmanov graduated with honors from the Karaganda State Medical Institute and entered the postgraduate study at the department of pharmacology of this Institute.
From 1958 till 1962 Turegeldy Sharmanovich Sharmanov worked as the head physician of the Ulytau district hospital of the Karaganda region, then the head of the Research Institute’s department of regional pathology of the Kazakh SSR Ministry of Health in Alma-Ata (1962-1968), the rector of the Aktobe State Medical Institute and the head of the pharmacological department (1968-1971). From 1971 till 1982 Turegeldy Sharmanovich Sharmanov was the Kazakh SSR Minister of Health. At the same time he was the director of the Institute of Nutrition’s Kazakh branch of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, established at his initiative (1973-1984). He was the head of the nutrition department of the Alma-Ata State Institute for doctors’ advancement of the USSR Ministry of Health (1983-1985), and from 1985 till 1988 - the nutritional department of the Lenin central order of the Institute for doctors’ advancement of the USSR Ministry of Health (COLIDA), the clinical vitaminology laboratory of the Nutrition Institute of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and at the same time was the editor-in-chief of the all-union journal "Questions of nutrition". Since 1988 Turegeldy Sharmanovich was the head of the scientific center of regional nutrition problems of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences , currently renamed to CJSC "the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition". Since May 1995 - the president of the Kazakhstan Academy of Preventive Medicine.
In 1975 Turegeldy Sharmanovich Sharmanov was elected as a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, and in 1982 - academician. Since 1994 - academician of the Republic of Kazakhstan National Academy of Sciences. Member of the experts’ committee of the World Health Organization, member of the scientific societies of biochemistry, allergology and immunology, internal diseases in the Republic of Kazakhstan and Russia, member of the editorial board of the research and practice journal "The issues of nutrition", editor-in-chief of the research and practice journal "Health and disease". He was a chairman of the dissertational council of the Institute by the specialty "hygiene". In 1992 Turegeldy Sharmanovich Sharmanov was elected as a president of the Kazakh fund of children's nutrition.
