Valentina Askochenskaya was born in 1934 in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Valentina Askochenskaya graduated from a secondary school in the city of Voznesensk, Mykolaiv region of the Ukrainian SSR in 1951, the Philological Faculty of the History and Philology Department of Voronezh State University in 1959. She began to study at the University of Warsaw (she lived with her parents in Warsaw).
Since 1959 Askochenskaya was a lecturer, assistant professor, professor of the Department of Russian-Slavic linguistics (since 1992 the Department of Slavic Philology) at Voronezh State University. In 1956, from studentship, Askochenskaya taught Polish. Then her main academic interests were associated with this language. She wrote more than 70 works, including two Polish language textbooks and three monographs devoted to the problems of the Polish-Russian-Ukrainian language parallels (Voronezh, 1991–1993).
