In 1722 he was sent to the Alexander Nevsky Monastery, served as a hieromonk on ships. Since 1726, was the archimandrite of the Pskov Snotogorsky Monastery, since 1730 - the archimandrite of the Pskov Monastery of the Caves. Bishop of Kolomna (1731-1739), Vyatka (1739-1742). Bishop of Voronezh and Yeletsky (since 1742).
He achieved significant success in the conversion of pagan non-Russians to Christianity. He planned to establish Latin schools here, in connection with which several teachers came to Voronezh. At the beginning of 1743 issued a decree to elect the "first people of the benevolent" brethren to the vacant seats of the abbots and represent them to the diocese.
